Gravity Alfonson Cuaron/2013
Gravity is one of those films that hardly comes by on the big screen. It’s no surprise as to why it got so much accolades and attention as it deserved every success it got. It centers on an astronaut in space who because of scraps cause by a missile lauch left her wondering endlessly in the hollow of space with nothing to hold on to but her fear of the unknown. Sandra Bullock who portrayed Dr. Ryan Stone did an exceptional job in her portrayal, it was amazing to see Bullock shed her usual chick film character and venture into a more darker and more intense character. You’ll get the feeling of her struggle and fears flowing in space. I admire how much she was able to hold her own for most part of the film with a small but important contribution by George Clooney who played Lt. Matt Kowalski. Gravity’s cinematography on the otherhand was at its best and Alfonso Cuaron did a superb job with its direction. What is highly commendable about Cuaron is the seamless camera work that gives you the feeling of being outside in space and it’s emptiness. Gravity offers more than it being a quality film, it gives hope in the most impossible times and courage when one is losing hope. It teaches us that at times letting go of the past is vital to be able to move on with your life and to stop blaming yourself for your mistakes.

Some people are worth melting for -Olaf
What can I say about Frozen? Well firstly it’s a such a beautiful film, a truly majestic film at one of that. Never have I watch an animation that has left me speechless not just with the story or the characters but more so of the execution of the film in its entirety. Frozen offers a movie with depth and humanity, love of a special someone was not at the core but more so love of family, love of sisters. And I guess that made Frozen different from other Disney films nor from other animations. It simply followed the story of a young princess who ventures into an unforgettable and challenging journey through such harsh weather to find her sister and bring back summer to Allendale. What may seem like a simple and easy enough plot lies something else entirely different. What we thought will save Princess Anna from her death is not a true love’s kiss but love from her sister, from Princess Elsa . Frozen simply teaches us the value of family, forgiveness and most of all acceptance. For me that’s what I admired about the film whilst watching it, and what I brought out with me after seeing it. It was nice to see characters that are natural and relatable in all of its aspects. With no real antagonist Frozen was a lot more easier to watch and to take in, and because of that it’s enough to win you over. The musical aspect of the film is highly commendable, it has been such a long time that we’ve seen a Disney film with an excellent musical score similar to the more classical and beloved offers of Disney from before. That much complements with how well Frozen was put together. Both Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee did a great job in directing Frozen. From it’s editing, execution, cinematography and voice over it certainly did not fail. It manages to over exceed for that matter! Overall Frozen is a fun filled and family friendly film with a lot of humour and adventure that will certainly will not fail.
If our world dies, your world will die too-Ronin
Epic is definitely epic. A fun filled educational animation that teaches the value of family, friends and nature! An animation filled with non stop adventure that will for sure able to cater for all ages whether you’re a child or even an adult! What the film managed to do in less than two hours is transport us to a whole new world far different form our own. From it’s top notch production and execution in it’s direction, editing, and story Epic will leave you in awe. Much can be thankful for the voice of Josh Hutcherson and Amanda Seyfried for they have succeeded in bringing the lead characters to life! One must not also forgot the role of Beyonce as the beautiful and elegant Queen. It might have been a small role but it is a small role that played an integral part to the story!
There really is nothing much to say about it except for the fact that it is an extraordinary story set in an extraordinary world but is somehow relevant to real issues that are of concern to us human beings. It taught us the importance of nature for us and how we treat it is very much how it will treat us back quite similar to Thomas Berry’s statement during the Ecological Crisis. Overall Epic is a movie for everyone that is just as epic as the name itself!
The Lucky One
"Everyone has their own destiny, Not everyone makes a choice to follow it, I’m lucky I did"-Logan Thibault
The Lucky One has all the formula of a typical Nicholas Sparks Movie from it’s troubled lead starts in a complicated situation and with a melodramatic love story. Much can be said with the chemistry of Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling physically and sexually. They both exude with so much chemistry it makes their pairing unbelievably beautiful and strong. They managed to bring their characters to life effectively one that you would love throughout the film! Although the film had nothing new to offer it certainly is a film that is very pleasing to watch and probably one of the most better of Nicolas Sparks movie since the highly acclaimed The Notebook. The love story was established effectively and in a solid pace with their situation being handled just about right as not to ruin the story as a whole. The choice of soundtrack was superb that highly complimented the different mood of the film. Overall The Lucky One is a movie that will make you want to fall in love and believed that sometimes our journey and destiny in life can changed for our own good for us to become happy and content with what we are and with what we have.
The Great Gatsby
“No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.”-Nick Carraway
The Great Gatsby is either a film you’ll love or hate or like me in between. I love it simply because of how extravagant and beautiful the whole production was and the solid performances of both Carrey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCarpio and with the rest of the supporting cast. Both DiCarpio and Mulligan displayed strong and effective performances complimenting each other on the screen! The costumes and setting were very much a stand out in contrast to the depressing but beautiful love story. Despite of what I love about the film there were something to also hate about it! The film was too long that it felt like dragged near the end and the use of “Young And Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey in the background was overused that it seemed to have lost it’s true meaning. The over the top direction of Baz Luhrmann did not help the film whatsoever but made it sometimes too much to watch and admire instead of being able to just enjoy the film as a whole. Nevertheless The Great Gatsby has it’s strong factors but failed in some parts with both complimenting each other to make the film somewhat enjoyable to watch. One thing to admire about the film is that it stayed as true as possible to the well beloved book of F.Scott Fitzgerald which at the end is all that matter for it managed to capture effectively the truth behind the book of which are love, dream and corruption.
The Dark Knight Rises
A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy’s shoulder to let him know that the world hadn’t ended. -Batman
The Dark Knight Rises directed by Christopher Nolan is indeed a movie worth watching. With action packed scenes and superb acting most especially from Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway one would not feel bored inside the movie house considering of how long the movie was. Although it failed miserably on cinematography it won’t matter because of it’s great direction and editing. The twist and revelations to the story made the movie somehow complicated to understand but somehow is relevant to the story making it a lot more interesting than it actually is. The fight scenes were executed well and will indeed leave you on the edge of your seat, leaving you holding your breathe as to know what will happen next with the characters and to the story itself. The background music was in tune to the feel of a particular scene and production was at it’s best boasting of excellent use of location! Overall it’s a great movie that will leave you wanting more and thinking of what actually happened at the end. That is probably the good thing about The Dark Knight Rises, it ended openly with Batman and Cat woman together and with Blake taking on the role as Batman’s famous sidekick Robin..B+
Salmon Fishing In The Yemen
“It would be so good to settle down and become part of somewhere again, instead of constantly passing through” -Paul Torday
Probably the most unique movie that have ever graced the big screen.. Salmon Fishing In The Yemen is a beautifully crafted film that boast excellent acting from both the ever fabulous Emily Blunt and from the talented Ewan McGregor! The chemistry between Blunt and McGregor was both quirky and refreshing to see far different from anything that I’ve witnessed in any movie.. Hallström managed to produced a movie that boast of excellent moral lessons in both love and life and how corrupted politics can sometimes be yet in a way has major impacts on everyday life! Also the production can also be highly praised especially the scenes taken in Yemen for it truly was breathtaking and amazing to take in. One should not be lead to believe that this is just a movie about salmon fishing in the Yemen as there’s more to it than meets the eye.. Although the idea of salmon fishing is the central plot of the movie the love that was executed and developed magnificently throughout the film made the film more amazing than it already was. Directed and edited in such a high standard Salmon Fishing In The Yemen is a feel good movie that has everything a film should have whether it be comedy, romance or drama yet Salmon Fishing In The Yemen managed to intertwine all three so beautifully that it makes the movie even more worth to watch.. It’ll be movie that I’ll deemed of either you hate it or just like me totally in love with it.A+
‘It’s the strange world, the strangest.” Wanda and Ian O Shea
If there is one thing to say about THE HOST its probably mind blowing. I’ve never been such a huge fan of anything that has got to do with aliens but somehow The Host made aliens outside earth look so beautiful not to mention so peaceful. What I love about the movie is how beautifully made it was from its direction and editing, the transition of the scenes from one to other was executed quite remarkably where no scene felt out of place. The acting from the three lead stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel managed to play their characters effectively, the chemistry between the characters were strong enough to feel something whether it be sympathy or awe, the same thing can be said about its extra cast. Saoirse Ronan’s portrayal of both Melanie and Wanderer were excellent where she managed to differ Melanie and Wanderer from one another, the bond between the two characters were so strong that you’d actually feel they’ve build a bond that only existed between them as nothing but loving sisters. The love story wasn’t over the top or cheesy but rather enough to make the story a lot more better but somehow I wish it could have been developed a lot more most especially with the characters of Ian and Wanda. I also wished they could have also played more with Diane Kruger’s character The Seeker for I felt it wasn’t developed to its full potential, Andrew Niccol could have work upon The Seeker changed of mind on starting a war and breaking the moral code of The Souls which are to live in peace and harmony. As the great actress that Diane Kruger was I just felt that they didn’t exhausted her potential that could have been a benefit for the film.. Overall as much as I would have loved to see more action it was enough to keep me interested and on the edge of my seat.B+
The Hunger Games
“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor! -Effie Trinket
The Hunger Games is a movie based on the best selling novel of the same title written by Suzanne Collins. First and foremost I’ve got to praised Gary Ross for a job well done in terms of his direction of the movie although I did have a problem that at first the way the camera moved gave me a headache due to the fact that it was shaky but overall direction wise it was executed well. There was consistency in it’s flow and right from the very beginning of the movie the excitement was clearly visible, and never did the film felt dull and boring for it achieved what other films cannot and that is to keep the audiences on the edge of their seat. Transition of the scenes was done in an excellent manner having that feeling where its not all over the place. Graphics wise nothing was new of course where Hollywood is where right now graphics is already realistic enough as not to look fake! There was not much attention placed on the love triangle between the three lead, it was subtle and was not force in your face. Somehow it was just enough as not to ruin of what The Hunger Games is really all about.
For me most especially to review The Hunger Games without commenting on the beautiful and strong performance of Jennifer Lawrence would be if not a big but a huge mistake. The emotions was visible with not only how she moved but with how she spoke aswell as in her eyes. Watching her I can say felt as if she wasn’t acting but more that she was Katniss Everdeen. I must also not forget the portrayal of the other actors for they did a job well done most especially Amandla Stenberg who played Rue left a huge impression on me.
Overall the movie is worth watching and not much can be said for The Hunger Games for it is a beautiful movie jam-packed with action, excitement and strong memorable performances. A-
Do my dearest sisters,
I felt the need to write or since it’s in tumblr I’ll be typing it but anyways here it goes I want both of you to know that you are enough as a person and please don’t feel like you have to change just for one guy because if he truly loves you, he’ll love you for who are and not for what you’ll be. I want both of you to feel and know that you are beautiful not only on the inside but pretty much also on the outside and having spent 16 years living with both of you I can guarantee that any guy whoever it may be will be so lucky to have you as both a friend and a wife.
Love is a very complicated thing having experienced it’s bitterness and hardships I know how love can sometimes be unfair but despite the pain and suffering that it brings it’s the whole reason why we’re here and why we’re born. Love is something that everyone should have the right to maybe it be love from family and friends and to also love from a very special someone but what’s important to know is that everyone needs and deserves to be loved. Sometimes for sure you might feel like nobody will ever love you but I promise you the right one will eventually come along, but don’t go looking for it but let it find you because that’s why it’s called falling inlove You’ll go through life without the slightest idea that some guy that you know or don’t know eventually likes you but you just don’t know so please don’t go thinking as if you’ll never be love cause you will and YOU ARE LOVED!
Guys can be douchebags I know because there are days I know I am. Guys will hurt you and play you and will make you feel like trash but at the end of the day even if guys can be stupid and horrible they’ll protect you from anything and everything that will hurt you. Guys don’t hurt you for purpose all the time, how somehow it’s part of the nature of being a man. So if guys ignore you it’s either they like you or they don’t so there’s really a 50/50 percent chances that they like you back. So be patient and be strong as everything will work out eventually and the right guy who’ll treat you right and will love you unconditionally will come in the most unexpected moment and take you by surprise.
Love your dearest most awesome good-looking loving younger brother!
